After visiting the castle my family stopped in to the castle arms to see if we could get seating for six adults. The waiter told us a group was just finishing up in this cute private room to the left of the entrance. We were seated quickly and he helped us to pick out beers to drink by offering us several samples at the bar. He helped us through the menu and really made the experience enjoyable. My chicken sandwich was very tasty! Everyone really enjoyed their meals! If in Edinburgh it is a good choice!
After a long day of traveling and touring the Castle, we chanced upon this place by heading toward the grassmarket area. Nice pub style atmosphere, so we ordered 3 fish and chips and 3 tennents. Great beer and even better fish and chips. The batter was light and mixed with herbs and the fish was so fresh. This was one of the best meals we had on a 2 week trip to Ireland and Scotland. Bartender/waitress was very friendly and helpful, letting us try a few Scottish beers in a small glass.
This place is a tourist’s dream, in a good way. The staff were all so personable, gave us great beer recommendations, and kept us laughing until far too late in the morning. We stopped in after our early-morning flight while waiting for our hotel to be ready and went back later that night. They stayed open past the other bars in the area so we could continue to enjoy ourselves. We had a wonderful time!
If you are visiting Edinburgh, it’s the best place to try haggis, they’ve got a great selection of ales as well. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, classic rock music and staff was very helpful. Definitely recommend this pub-bistro!
Our go-to place for dinner! We have nice memories of this place for its very friendly staff and wonderful “Scottish” food. Had our first taste of haggis here and actually enjoyed it! Watched people at the bar wearing kilts and for first timers to Scotland, this place made us feel welcome and a bit like a native!
I was surprised not to have heard of the Castle Arms in guidebooks or reviews online. It is surely a hidden gem and I would highly recommend stopping by for a meal if you are in the Edinburgh Castle / grassmarket areas of town.
